Guitar with Joe

30mn private lessons with Joe Goodkin. Drawing on his Bachelor’s Degree in the Classics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, on his extensive experience teaching private music lessons, and on years of writing and performing original rock and acoustic music, Joe will help your child learn how to play and enjoy guitar. Joe Goodkin has been a Lycée Guitar teacher for over 10 years. Lessons taught in English.

Guitar with Mitch

30mn private lessons with Mitch Lavin. Mitch has been playing guitar for 40 years, and has been a full-time guitar teacher for the last 24 years. He founded Learn Guitar Chicago and teaches all players, from novices picking up a guitar for the first time to experienced players looking to expand their abilities and musical styles. He focuses on the development of fundamental skills, including chords, rhythm, and improvisation. Using a carefully developed curriculum of exercises, Mitch enables his students to grow into well-rounded rock, blues, and jazz musicians. Lessons taught in English.

Voice with Gabrielle

Gabrielle offers private lessons in English, French, and Spanish. She is dedicated to promoting education for all, and focuses on the learning process and the development of life skills. She channels her students’ strengths and unique qualities to build their confidence in their own ability to acquire new skills and to expand their knowledge of music, communication, and themselves. She customizes her curriculum and pace based on each student’s needs and interests. Lessons are rooted in playfulness and a deep respect for the power and beauty of music.

Gabrielle has taught voice, piano and percussion, given masterclasses, conducted ensemble and adjudicated competitions in Oak Park School of Music, (Illinois), the National University of Arequipa (Perú), the Indonesian Embassy (Perú), ProJazz (Perú), the Alliance Française in Lima (Perú), the National University of Huanuco (Perú), and the Music School of Uzès (France).

In fall 2023, she taught a Masterclass on French and Italian Art Song, French diction class and private tutoring for the singing department of North Central College in Naperville (Illinois), and she will adjunct a voice competition this winter. In spring 2024 she was invited to teach a diction class at Vander Cook College of Music in Chicago.

Voice with Charley

Charley Williams is a Chicago-based singer and music educator from Detroit, with over a decade of performance experience, and 4+ years of teaching voice/piano privately. She has a Masters degree in Classical Voice Performance from Chicago College of Performing Arts, and teaches via online and in person throughout the Chicago and Metro Detroit areas.

Over the years, she's worked with all ages and backgrounds vocally, enabling her teach many musical genres, especially: Pop, Broadway, Jazz, and Opera. Her students have received numerous accolades, have won state competitions, and various local and collegial auditions.

In her lessons she strives to foster an environment that makes music feel accessible, comprehensive, inclusive, exhilarating, and fun for all. Lessons are tailored to the students personal goals, and emphasize the importance of a natural, healthy vocal production and a solid technique.

She is passionate about unraveling her students full potential; helping them to find their own voices and artistry within. She enjoys cultivating experiences that empower her students in every aspect of their lives, instilling a love for the vocal arts that goes beyond the stage lights.

Violin with Lena

30min or 60mn in-person private lessons

Lena holds a Bachelor of Music in performance with a minor in French from Northwestern University, where she studied violin with Gerardo Ribeiro and chamber music with the Dover Quartet, Desirée Ruhstrat, and Mathias Tacke. She graduated summa cum laude from the Bienen School as a recipient of the Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Her undergraduate education also included studies with Alexis Galpérine at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris and Université de Paris 8 – Vincennes-St Denis. Lena received her master’s degree in contemporary performance at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied violin with Curtis Macomber and chamber music with Margaret Kampmeier, Fred Sherry, and Lucy Shelton. She is a violin instructor for Soyulla Artists and maintains a private teaching studio in New York City.

Lena is also an AmSAT-certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, teaching privately and serving as Associate Faculty at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She trained at the Riverside Initiative for the Alexander Technique, studying with second-generation teachers Nanette Walsh, Caren Bayer, and Lori Schiff.

Piano with Johanna

30mn private lessons with Johanna Ortegon.

Johanna Ortegon is a Colombian-born classical pianist, music educator, and artistic leader with more than 20 years of experience in piano performance, music education, curriculum development, and ensemble direction. Johanna holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance from Eastern Michigan University, a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from EAFIT University, and a Diploma in Composition and Piano from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. She also holds Suzuki Teaching Certification through the Suzuki Association of the Americas.

For Johanna, music is a powerful tool for developing concentration, self-awareness, emotional expression, and the ability to understand and manage our feelings. Through music, students learn to listen—not only to music, but also to themselves and to others.

Lessons are available in English or in Spanish.

Piano with Julie

30mn private lessons with Julie De Grandpre. Pianist and vocalist Julie de Grandpre holds a BA in Music Performance from Laval University, Quebec. After touring the world with Cirque du Soleil for more than 3 years as a General Stage Manager and Back-up Singer, Julie is now sharing her passion for music with kids of all ages.

A native French speaker, Julie has played piano for close to 40 years. Her enthusiasm is contagious! Lessons taught in French or English.

Piano with Lauren

30mn private lessons with Lauren Ingebrigtsen

Lauren is a Teaching Artist at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Most recently she sung the title role in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s touring production of Katie: The Strongest of the Strong. She has been featured on many local stages, including: Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Opera Theater, Opera Festival of Chicago, Chicago Fringe Opera, Chicago Summer Opera, and more. She also prides herself on having a diverse piano and voice studio of intelligent young artists who use music to express their own individual stories and identities. Lauren can teach lessons in English or in French.

Piano & Accordion with Ronnie

30mn private lessons with Ronnie Kuller.

Ronnie Kuller is a pianist, accordionist, composer, arranger, and educator. As a teacher, she is patient and playful, meeting students wherever they are on their musical journey, engaging each individual’s creativity, and fostering excellent technique in the service of musicality.

She has performed as accordionist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Joffrey Ballet, the Chicago Philharmonic, and on accordion and piano with Mister Tom Musick. Her compositions have been performed at Ear Taxi Festival and recorded onto wax cylinder at Edison National Historical Park. This fall, she is releasing an album Her Only Light: Songs of Connie Converse, out on Sono Luminus records on October 2nd. She lives in Chicago with her wonderful husband Patrick and amazing daughter Sylvie.

Ronnie will have several accordions of various sizes available to play on-site for students 8+ who are interested in learning this beautiful instrument.

Lessons are taught in English, though Ronnie does speak some French.
